August 26 * Last Heartbeat *On the west side of the city
in a rundown two room flat
sittin' by her window
with a baby in her lap
She stares out of the window
at this city that she hates
and wonders what she ever did
to deserve this fate.
But the man who said he loved her,
well you know, he's been long gone
and she aint seen nor heard from him
since before this child was born.
//////
Deep within her mind she knows
she has no place for him
but deep within her heart she wonders
if she'll ever love again
But the autumn rain is fallin'
and tomorrow will bring snow
and those pretty leaves lie rustin'
in the gutter of her soul.
//////
There's no money left to buy the heat
no food upon the shelf
and she watches as the child sleeps
and cries to herself
" Oh child, oh child, oh child of mine
do not fear this thing
for tonight will bring a stranger's voice
and another nightmare dream"
"Oh child, oh child, oh child I pray
do not be my judge
for this thing that I must do tonight
I do for you, my love"
/////
On the west side of the city
in a rundown two room flat
starin' out the window
as the daylight turns to black
And she watches as the cars below
start circle'n'' the street
like the vultures that are circlin'
waitin' for that last heartbeat!
/////

do not be my judge
for this thing that I must do tonight
I do for you, my love" Comments (6)
