    Symbiote

Still I do not understand this,
    little one,
    Upon your breath         I breathe
    Upon your touch                I feel
And at the dying of your soul
    I marvel and I mourn.

No love have you given me
And no love have I returned
    Belligerant,  triumphant
    Devastated   and spurned

There are no reasons to continue
    Nor reasons to refrain
    Silence begets loneliness
    Suspicion begets pain.

There is no need for comradery
For that the others will do.
    There are no reasons,
    little one,
But still, I live for you.

    Greetings, Dawg.

You caught me off-balance today. The words in Symbiote have hit a hard. It is poignant. It's hard. Mysterious and, I don't know; a little sad somehow...

Damn... Life is usually pretty good, then a day comes when life throws us one curve ball after another and we dog-paddle to keep our heads above water emotionally. Then the poetry comes along--a writer has done his job well and his words hit home...

I think poetry is a lens, focusing complicated thoughts and feelings into a single beam, ready for interpretation. Then, the comprehension of poetry is like a prism: the focused words pass through and are separated into the colors from which they originated. I love your use of words, the colors from which they come... In some of your past words I have found russet gold, rusty brown, olive green, sunshine yellow, azure and aquamarine.

Today it is indigo: lonely-walk-by-the-ocean blue, contemplating-the-night-sky-am-I-alone blue.

One of the jobs of a good writer is to elicit an emotional response from his or her reader.

Ya done good, Dawg... Ya done good.

    Wishing you peace.

Beautiful. And like all good poems, it can be read a number of different ways. I think the wonder of writing is that it becomes an exchange of souls, and through that synergy, newness is born.

And so, for me, this poem remains incomplete, telling only one side of the story--perhaps there IS communication, but only one way. Perhaps there IS love, but a wall between. Perhaps the living for IS reciprocated, but known only singly, so that the wall becomes a mirror, not a window. And that may the tragedy of it all. I hope for more.

    Thank you for sharing.
