It never fails to amaze me

and.... never ceases to depress,

when I find myself with pen in hand

and nothing in my head!

All the lines that I'd come up with,

driving home that day,

no matter how profound they were,

will have vanished with out trace.

So I'll sit and stare, for hours it seems,

at my pad of paper rag,

just trying to recall one thought

or some metaphoric gag!

I dwell on beauty, beast and boast

and things my heart desires!

I fan the flames of things insane

until my soul perspires!!

I give me hell and wish me well

and damn and curse and pray,

'til lifetimes pass and I know.... at last,

there's nothing there to say.

So with aching head and sleepy eyes

I wearily retire,

to lie awake

and start to think,

and then........

become inspired!!
