4月23日 Boots on the Ground *This is a song that I wrote after hearing a piece on NPR about the war in Iraq. We had just recieved our 500th casualty and a group in Washington (I think.... at least that is what I recalled at the time) had lined up 500 pair of boots on an outdoor mall to show one cost of the war. This was also at a time when I had begun to re-evaluate my belief that we had gone into Iraq for a good cause. I no longer believe this. What I do believe is that our president lied to us....knowing full well what the real situation in Iraq was. He is also fully aware that war-time presidents rarely get defeated. I firmly believe that he was beginning his re-election campaign by fabricating a war....... and it worked. I used to think that Richard Nixon was a horrible person as a president..... he is now #3 on the list (behind Bush and Clinton). By the way.... we are now over 1500 deaths of American soldiers. Is any one counting the wounded....the civilians or the soldiers from other nations? Boots On The Ground (c) 2003 all rights reserved There's boots on the ground in Baghdad, boots in Afghanistan. There's five hundred pair on a Washington square Five hundred dead young women and men That's five hundred we won't see again // Oh fly away my brother, oh fly away my son Just fly away to a better day And pray that this war can be won // We have laser guided smart bombs that can thread a needle's eye And we can play it again on CNN and never have to see them die No we never hear them scream and cry! And there's landmines by the road side and carbombs by the mosque It's all on TV but you never get to see the boy with his legs blown off No, that image always seems to get lost! // So fly away my daughter, fly away my friend Just fly away to a better day Let's pray that this war will soon end. // Now the old men on the hillside, swappin' lies among them selves Say it all went to hell when the towers fell and they blame it all on some one else. But the truth is never hidden from the self. So if you're lookin' for the answers then listen to understand It's pretty plain to see it's up to you and me And the way we treat our fellow man! // So fly away my father, fly away my son Just fly away to a better day And pray that this war can be won // Oh there's boots on the ground in Baghdad and boots in Afghanistan There's five hundred pair on a Washington square, Five hundred dead young women and men That's five hundred we won't see again It's five hundred dead fathers and mothers Five hundred dead sisters and brothers Five hundred dead neighbors and friends FIVE HUNDRED DEAD SACRIFICIAL LAMBS!! // So fly away my mother, fly away my friend Just fly away to a better day And pray that this war will soon end Let's pray we will love our fellow man!!
